COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS 3.5a

New Release COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS 3.5a

Version 3.5a – Most Efficient COMSOL Ever

COMSOL Multiphysics Version 3.5a – Most Efficient COMSOL EverBenchmark tests show that v3.5a is over 3 times more efficient for large models of flow when compared to v3.4. Furthermore, the new Generalized-a solver makes time-dependent structural mechanics, electromagnetic, acoustics, and fluid-flow simulations more efficient.

The segregated solver, now available for time-dependent simulations, cuts memory usage for solving common multiphysics problems, such as Joule heating, by as much as 50%. A new out-of-core solver utilizes disk memory for simulating large problems on 32-bit and 64-bit computers.

Parasolid Powers CAD Import Module

The CAD Import Module now supports the Parasolid file format from Siemens PLM Systems throughout the CAD import process. Additionally, the CAD Import Module now runs on 64-bit OS X Macintosh platforms.

Parasolid file import has improved by eliminating the conversion of objects to a COMSOL geometry. It enhances productivity by giving you the ability to easily repair or defeature individual parts in an assembly.

New Bidirectional Interface for Inventor and Parametric Sweeps

COMSOL New Bidirectional Interface for Inventor and Parametric SweepsThe new, easy-to-use Autodesk Inventor bidirectional interface, which works like its SolidWorks® counterpart, maintains two-way associativity between Inventor and COMSOL so that any changes made in a COMSOL or Autodesk Inventor session propagate across both solutions automatically.

The Inventor and SolidWorks bidirectional interfaces also, when used with the CAD Import Module, now support parametric sweeps. This new functionality lets you wrap parametric sweeps around any COMSOL solver. Multiple-parameter sweeping is supported, and you can leverage parametric sweeps on distributed memory systems, such as Linux and Windows clusters.

New Meshing Flexibilities

COMSOL New Meshing FlexibilitiesNew, flexible meshing features, such as the ability to create tetrahedral elements from an existing mesh of hexahedral elements are now incorporated. An advancing-front mesher, the new default mesher for 2D geometries, creates higher-quality meshes for 2D and 3D surfaces than previous versions.

V3.5a also marks the debut of a swept meshing functionality using an N-to-1 surface method. This makes meshing layered structures simpler, faster, and easier.

New ECAD interface

COMSOL New ECAD interfaceThe AC/DC, MEMS and RF Modules v3.5a offer a new ECAD interface for creating geometries of PCB designs imported from ODB++ files and GDS files. You can now use NETEX-G® from Artwork Conversion Software to create geometries from Gerber/Drill file formats.
